What can a lump of clay teach us about faith?
More than you might imagine.
Through broken pottery, spinning wheels, kiln firings, and lessons learned while teaching others, Spiritual Lessons I've Learned from Teaching Pottery explores the remarkable ways God uses ordinary experiences to reveal extraordinary truths.

Drawing from decades of working with clay, these devotions uncover lessons about trust, purpose, healing, restoration, patience, and God’s faithful work in our lives. Each chapter combines personal stories, biblical insight, heartfelt prayers, and reflection questions designed to help readers see God’s hand at work in their own journey.
Whether you are walking through a season of uncertainty, searching for purpose, or simply longing to grow closer to God, these reflections will encourage you to trust the Potter’s hands and the process He is using to shape your life.
The Potter is still at work—and God is still writing your story.

About Lottie
Lottie Carter has had her hands in clay since she was 11 years old. What began as a childhood love of pottery grew into more than four decades of creating, teaching, and discovering just how much a lump of clay can teach us—not only about pottery, but about life and faith.
A lifelong artist, Lottie earned a degree in photography from Sam Houston State University and has worked in photography, graphic design, music education, and the ceramic arts. In 2015, she opened Fire It Up Pottery & Art Studio in Sugar Land, Texas, where she serves as owner and artistic director. Over the years, she has taught countless students to work with clay, from complete beginners to those looking to perfect their technique.
Those years of teaching eventually led somewhere Lottie never expected: to a book. Ordinary moments in the studio—centering clay, starting over after a piece collapsed, waiting through the firing process, repairing something broken—often reminded her of truths she knew from Scripture. She began writing those lessons down, and they ultimately became Spiritual Lessons I’ve Learned from Teaching Pottery, her first book.
A lifelong potter and traveler who has visited 49 of the 50 states, Lottie believes some of the best stories are found when we wander with purpose—following unexpected connections between creativity, faith, family, and everyday life. She still spends her days surrounded by clay, kilns, students, and the wonderfully unpredictable life of running an art studio, always watching for the lessons hidden in ordinary moments.
